TEMPLE, William, a Representative from Delaware; born in Queen Anne County, Md., February 28, 1814; completed preparatory studies; moved to Smyrna, Del., and engaged in mercantile pursuits; member of the State house of representatives in 1844 and served as speaker; served in the State senate 1845-1854; Acting Governor of Delaware from May 1846 to January 1847; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress and served from March 4, 1863, until his death before the convening of the Congress; died in Smyrna, Del., May 28, 1863; interment in the Episcopal Cemetery.
