WITH THE EXCEPTION of Prince William, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are probably the most glamorous members of the royal family. Born July 4, 1942 the Prince was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. After a 20-year military career, he is now an officer in the naval reserve.
Since his grandmother was a cousin to Czar Nicholas, the Prince is interested in Russian affairs, serving as patron of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce. A gifted linguist, he qualified as a Russian interpreter. He also speaks fluent French and has a working knowledge of German and Italian.
He gave up his right to the throne in 1978 when he married the Roman Catholic Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz of Bohemia. They have two children, Lord Frederick Windsor, born in 1979; and Lady Gabriella Windsor, born in 1981.
