Faith Hill
country-pop singer
Born: 9/21/1967
Birthplace: Jackson, Mississippi
Hill's ability to combine hit albums, altruism, marriage, and motherhood makes Martha Stewart look like a slug. At 19, she headed for Nashville, where she worked various jobs including selling T-shirts. Her 1993 debut single, “Wild One,” was a major hit, spending four weeks at number one on the country charts. Hill released her debut album, Take Me As I Am, in 1994 and “Piece of My Heart” became another number one hit. The same year she was voted the Academy of Country Music's Favorite New Female and Billboard magazine's Top Female Country Singer. In 1995, she released her multi-platinum It Matters to Me and was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People. In 1996, along with her fairytale marriage to country singer Tim McGraw by whom she now has two children, she also found time to launch the Faith Hill Family Literacy Project. Hill's third album, “Faith,” was released in the spring of 1998, generating the hit “The Secret of Life.” Breathe followed in 1999, containing the title track hit that's been her most popular song to date.
