Ike Turner Biography
Turner was an R&B musician, songwriter, bandleader, producer, talent scout, and the ex-husband of Tina Turner. He was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi growing up around blues musicians who taught him the boogie-woogie and guitar. His music career started in the 1950s helping to shape rock ânâ roll, soul, and rhythm and blues. Turner is probably best known for discovering a teenage singer named Anna Mae Bullock, who he renamed Tina Turner. They made many hits together in the Ike and Tina Turner Revue during the 1960s. Their song âProud Maryâ won a Grammy award for best R&B performance by a group in 1971. Ike and Tina Turner were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Ike Turner released an album in 2006 that won the 2007 Grammy award for best traditional blues album.
