Serious-minded actor known for taking offbeat and challenging parts, most notably the lead role in Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and the calculating criminal William Masters in William Friedkin's To Live and Die in LA (1985). Dafoe was nominated for supporting actor Oscars for Oliver Stone's Platoon (1986) and 2000's Shadow of the Vampire. In 2002 he co-starred in Spider-Man, playing the villain, the Green Goblin.
