Hillary Clinton Campaigns for Barry Goldwater: In this Oct. 15, 1996 photo, First Lady Hillary Clinton visited former Republican Senator Barry Goldwater at his home in Arizona where he was recovering from a stroke and suffering from early stages of Alzheimer's. Goldwater was the first presidential candidate Clinton volunteered for in 1964. In high school at the time, Clinton was a Young Republican and even attended the 1968 Republican convention. Working for Goldwater earned Hillary the nickname "Goldwater Girl."
